Spruce Up Your Taskbar With This Nifty Tool

TranslucentTB is a lightweight personalization tool that allows you to control the appearance of your Windows taskbar. There are various customization options it offers, such as color and effects, and it even works with some features of Windows that make use of the taskbar.

Efficient Bar

A taskbar is a part of a graphical user interface that has various purposes for the device it’s on. It’s generally one strip at the edge of the screen that typically shows which programs are currently running. You’ll see the icons of the active programs on it, and click and right-clicking on the taskbar will give you a list of commands you can do with it. Taskbars are mostly for switching between programs that you’re using, and you can now even pin apps to it for easy access. Since it’s an important part of the screen interface, the taskbar usually also has a notification area that will show you interactive icons displaying real-time information about the state of your computer and some of your running programs. It’s the one interface element that will usually appear even when your program windows are maximized, so it’s not surprising to see several neat little tools made for it to be tweaked. One of the issues most people have with taskbars is how they can’t be easily hidden. There’s an option to lock the taskbar where it is or unlock it and be able to drag how far you’d like it to go. However, this doesn’t get rid of it since it’s too important of a feature. One of the solutions to this is to edit its appearance to look like it disappeared.

Make It Look Good

TranslucentTB by Charles Milette is one of those tools that lets you toggle these options that Windows doesn’t provide. There are various customization options in the original Windows themes and appearance, but the taskbar can’t be customized much aside from its color, intensity, and opacity, even with Windows Aero. However, TranslucentTB now allows even more looks for the taskbar, so if you’re not just looking to make it more subtle or unique, then this app can help you. You can customize its effect and color, and combine states such as Maximized Window, Start Menu Open, Cortana Open, and Timeline or Task View Open. Each one of these states has a customizable taskbar appearance so you can dynamically change a much more visually pleasing taskbar for your desktop. If you don’t want it to be just colored, you can turn it either blurry or transparent to make your screen look wider. You can even show or hide the Aero Peek button in conjunction with the style you created. This app only has one job but it does it well enough.

Great Customizer

TranslucentTB is a small and handy taskbar appearance tool that you can easily use. Much of its flaws stem from program crashes, however, and you might often have it working incorrectly. It will also be usually flagged by some antivirus programs as a threat, but it carries no risk at all. If you’d like to tweak your dull taskbar, this is a recommended app to use.

PROS

  • Can make taskbars transparent
  • Can customize various states
  • Color picker
  • Affects Aero and Cortana

CONS

  • Only for Windows 10
  • Crashes for some features frequently
  • Often needs to be restarted
  • Gets flagged as a malicious program
